Saturday 26th February 2022 saw the much-anticipated return of the House of Commons/Lords vs Senedd Rugby fixture at Richmond in London.

Every year these teams clash and this year the Senedd team had many new faces since their recent election in May 2021.

Amongst the new faces was James Evans MS who proudly wore his home clubs’ shorts and socks throughout the game, Gwernyfed RFC.

The Welsh Senedd team now march on with plans to attend the Parliamentary World Cup in France in 2023.

James Evans MS said:

“The game was a fantastic event with players of various abilities, ages and backgrounds all giving it their best for their team.

The true spirit of rugby was on display with both teams in good spirt and giving it their all throughout the fixture, with MPs, Senedd Members and Members of the House of Lords and parliamentary staffers all playing passionately.

To get a win over our rivals was really fantastic, sadly we couldn’t get a win against England later that day, but one victory is better than none.

Rugby is one of our country’s biggest passions and I was proudly wearing my Gwernyfed RFC shorts and socks on the day. I am looking forward to future fixtures to use Rugby to spread the message of democracy to nations all over the globe.”
