Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar, joined Welsh Conservative candidate for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd, Tyler Chambers, in Old Radnor last week to meet residents concerned about proposals for large-scale wind turbines and pylons across the area.

Speaking during the visit, Tyler Chambers said: “People here (Old Radnor) care deeply about their countryside and their communities. These turbines, at around 200 metres tall, would change the character of the area completely.

“Visitors come for the open views, the quiet, and the natural beauty. Tourism supports local pubs, B&Bs and small businesses. Developments on this scale risk putting that at risk.”

Darren Millar said it was important that local voices are heard before decisions are made. He commented: “These are major proposals that would have a lasting impact on this area.

“Communities like Old Radnor shouldn’t feel that things are being done to them without their say. The landscape here is part of what makes this part of Wales special. Once it’s changed, it’s changed for good.”

Mr Chambers confirmed that he will continue to campaign against large-scale turbine developments and associated infrastructure in the area.

“The Welsh Conservatives are standing up to protect Mid Wales because it’s our home,” said Chambers. “Our countryside supports our communities, local jobs, and way of life. The scale of the proposed turbine development would change our area forever, and too many decisions are being made far from the people who live here.

“The turbines, some up to 200 metres tall, would dominate the skyline. This would be the largest industrial project Mid Wales has ever seen.

“Our uplands are fragile. They hold deep peat that stores carbon. They’re also home to wildlife, including vulnerable birds like the curlew. Large-scale construction, roads, and heavy machinery put these habitats at serious risk. Local communities would feel the impact too. Narrow rural roads would face months of heavy construction traffic.

“The views that make our homes, farms, and small tourism businesses special would be permanently changed. These plans have been supported by a Labour government propped up by Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats. These disastrous plans have ignored local voices and will destroy our countryside for generations to come.”
